Grand Mercure Shanghai Zhongya by ACCOR

This hotel is every bit as beautiful as the photos. The staff and concierge are really helpful and friendly but they speak good English rather than perfect English. This is normal for China. They are very helpful with writing instructions for taxi drivers. The Buffet Breakfast is great. The room is very comfortable and stylish with a great bathroom. I would definitely stay here again.

This was a great find in Zhabei. Very central and 20ft from the subway entrance. Entrance to hotel is a bit hard to find since it is located in a large laneway. The finishings and decor were really nice. Great lobby bar. Hotel has a very nice spa/gym. Service by the attendants was really good. They give you a towel and bottle of water when you work out. There is also a club attached to this hotel, which I didn't get a chance to check out since it wasn't opened yet. But by the looks of it, it seems to be well designed from the outside. I would definitely stay here again.

Modern design, very new, centrally located, high speed internet, nice shower. But have to be careful with your belonging around the hotel area as it is close to the train station.

Very nice hotel. Good location and great service. I was in town for just one night on my way out of the country and really appreciated the level of service and style given for such a reasonable price. The room was big, clean, and stylish. Very comfortable bed and pillows. The gym was well-appointed, generously cooled, and perfectly empty except for me. I spent some time in the lobby bar and noticed lots of people heading up to the club on the second floor despite it being a Sunday night.

Grand Mercure was an impressive hotel. It's brand spanking new and you even still smell the fresh paint in the corridors. Interior: The hotel furnishing and interior design are very trendy and remind me of a just a more toned down W Hotel. The hotel also has a pleasant smell once you walk in. We got a Deluxe Room for about $120 a night. The room is adequately sized with an extremely comfortable and plush King size bed. The bed and mountains of pillows are so comfortable that my husband and I just want to sleep in. Amenities inside the room are well thought of, with all the networking and computer cables you'll need inside a box. Bathroom is roomy though we would like a bit more counter space next to the basin. The only other drawback is that there is no full length mirror. Service: The service is acceptable - not great. Front desk seems quite under-staff as there is always just one person manning the area. We had to wait 10 minutes just to check out. The staff speaks proficient English, so the hotel is quite foreigner friendly. Location: While not in the center of all the attractions like Nanjing Road and People's Square, the hotel is 20 seconds walk away from a subway station on Subway Line 1. Once you get into the subway, you're just 3 stations away from People's Square and 4 stations away from Nanjing E. Road. There are also a bunch of 24-hour restaurants just around the corner in case you don't want to wander far to get a bite. I was perfectly happy paying half of what I would pay to stay in those central locations for this calibre of hotel. Getting a cab is also not that difficult since there are lots of people that come back with cabs. Of course, i went there during Expo season, so it may be different after the Expo. Overall, great value for a 5-star hotel. Location is good enough for the price you pay.

This is an outstanding hotel for the price level: great service, perfect location for public transportation and amazing room. I am a frequent traveler and for sure this is one of the best hotels for the price.
