Hotel Terminus am Hauptbahnhof

Für junge Leute ein Top Hotel, freundliches Personal, super Lage (nahe Hauptbahnhof und Metro). Empfehlenswert!

The hotel is just a few hundred meters from the Hauptbahnhof, and across the street from the U-bahn station, so it's great for touring the region. Rooms are small, but clean. Lift (elevator) is unusual ... each floor is a few steps up or down from the elevator landing. New TVs have 30 channels; only English language one is CNN. Breakfast buffet (included) is nice; meats, cheeses, eggs, pastries, fruit and coffee drinks. Neighborhood is "iffy" at best, but I'd stay there again for the convenience. There's a good outdoor mall just on the other side of the train station, with a terrific Italian restaurant, "Prego." And a McDonald's "McCafe" location is close-by if you need it!

The single room is very small (more like a large walk-in closet than hotel room), but it had a nice shower (good water pressure, heated up fast) and free wi-fi in the room. Breakfast included breads, meats, yogurt and cheeses - and Nutella. Yum. There are no other amenities, such as a gym and the small TV has only German-language and one French-language stations. The front desk person was friendly and the metro (U and S) are very close, as is a taxi stand and a major shopping area is about 10 - 15 min walk away. The Rathuas is 1 or 2 metro stops away and also within walking distance. The neighborhood is a bit shady though. There are several sex shops on the block and prositutes frequent the area at night. I was uncomfortable walking alone at night. A local resident, when he heard where I was staying, advised me of certain walking routes to take to avoid potentially troublesome areas. Due to this, I probably would not stay here again. If the neighborhood does not bother you, this is a nice "basic plus" hotel for when you plan to be out and about most of the time and want a clean and comfortable place to sleep at night.

The Terminus single room is VERY small- more like a large walk-in closet than a hotel room (room for a single bed, small table and chair), but it was neat/clean and with a nice shower (good water pressure, quick to heat up). There is free wi-fi and a nice self-serve breakfast that has cereals, breads, yogurt, juice, cheese, cold meats, and hot eggs as choices. They even had small packages of Nutella. Yum. The desk clerk on duty was also very pleasant and offered directions to the metro and assisted with the wi-fi access. There are no other "extras," such as a gym or larger tv. The metro is very near, which is nice, and a major shopping area is several blocks away. There is also a taxi stand about a half block from the hotel. The area is a bit "seedy" though. There are several sex shops on the block and the hotel is near streets that prostitutes frequent. I was uncomfortable walking alone at night in the area. When some locals I knew found out where I was staying, they advised me to avoid certain nearby streets, especially at night. Due to the neighborhood, I would not recommend the hotel. However, if you are comfortable in that environment, then this is a nice hotel to consider when you plan to spend most of the day sightseeing or otherwise out and about.

The hotel is quite inconspicuous from outside, being over a Kebab shop in a mixed area. Location is ideal, being 2-3 minutes from the main train and bus stations. The single room was very compact but adequate for my needs. Breakfast was ok with the usual range of cereals, cold meat, cheese, bread and fruit. Service was friendly and overall I was satisfied with the hotel and the price.
