Commons Evaluation
We enjoyed our experience in this unique hotel with traditional furnishings and maze like stairwell. We truly enjoyed the uniqueness. It was a great overall experience.

It is a 5 minute drive to downtown Halifax, where there is plenty of shopping mall and downtown stores to shop.

Nice spot
Great little hotel, not too far from downtown. Nice comfortable room, staff was very helpful. Would stay here again, great value for the price.

nice place to stay
Stayed in hotel only fro sleeping, but room was clean and neat. Staff was very helpful and caring about our stay, and offered directions for our driving and suggestions for dinner etc. Breakfast was good continental, yogurt would be nice addition, as would a esspresso machine!

European style Pensione
The Commons Inn is a clean, neat pensione style hotel with a breakfast room. It's within walking distance from all the downtown/wharf attractions but is a bit of a hike. Nonetheless my 75 year old mom and I walked it every day without a problem. The rooms are very small and the amenities are all very basic. The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfasts are basic but good. For the price it's a very good value but if you like pools, exercise rooms, room service and king beds with 4 kinds of pillows, the Commons Inn is probably not for you. We enjoyed it.

Short walk from hotel
Save money on taxis or cars in the summer by taking FRED - a free bus that stops at the Citadel, Pier 22, the Maritime Museum, Spring Garden Road and the Casino. It runs every 40 minutes from 10:30 to 5:30 and the closest stop is near the entrance to the Citadel. The Citadel is a great place to explore too.

Good location
We chose the hotel for location, free parking and included breakfast. We weren't disappointed. The location was convenient to downtown, the Citadel the Common and the Quinpool area as long as you are used to walking. The hotel is on a quiet street and it was great to have free parking on site. The breakfast was outstanding - we didn't need lunch! We were able to walk easily to the Quinpool area which has lots of great restaurants which are very reasonably priced. We stayed at the hotel for three nights and it proved to be an ideal base from which to explore Halifax.

Long walk from hotel
The Citadel and the City Park in Halifax. Make sure it's a sunny day or you'll miss the fantastic view of Halifax harbour from the Citadel (we did - but we saw it on post cards!)
