OK for a short stay.

Very nice staff and good restaurant at this older hotel. Roughly 4 blocks to the beach but close to a lot of places to eat. Hotel was clean but definitely needs some refurbishment. Personally would not recommend for lengthy stays. Overnight is fine but it can be noisy.

You get what you pay for

This place is a favorite of former island people visiting family in Honolulu, so accommodations are basic, but adequate. Location is convenient to Ala Moana shopping, local eateries and Chinatown, but forget the view. One bedrm w/kitchenette was in older, separate complex.Did not eat at buffet this time, but was good several years ago. Would choose better hotel off-season, but this place was priced right for this time of year.

Restaurant-Tipp: Short drive from hotel

Chinatown is a great place to explore, shop and eat. We stumbled on Mei Dim Sum on Nuuanu Ave. and thought it was delicious. We even went back and got takeout. A friend took us to Nam Fong where we got the best cha siu and roast pork. There are many little places to try.

Extremely dissapointed

The one and only good thing about this hotel is the friendly staff. It wasn't near anything, wasn't walking distance to waikiki beach. The beach that we did walk to was about 10 blocks away through a very busy area. Very noisy. Extremely dirty and dated. Stains and holes in the carpet. We stayed one night and cancelled our reservation and moved to a different hotel. For a few hundred dollars more we got a great hotel on the beach. It's as if someone completey forgot about this hotel and not a dollar has been spent to compete with other hotels or renevate. Sorry Pagoda but I wouldn't reccommend this hotel to anyone.

Spar-Tipp: Short walk from hotel

Purchase a city bus pass. We got a 4 day pass for $30 and you could use it unlimited. You have to learn and understand the schedule thoroughly but once you get it, it's a great deal. Can take you all the way around the island. Good luck.

Room for improvement

First, the staff were wonderful, friendly and efficient. Location was okay for us. Walking distance to the Ala Moana mall (it's huge!), short drive to Waikiki and Diamond Head. Acceptable (though pricey) restaurant on the premises. The room was really spacious. We got what we paid for. Sleeping space for five, a kitchenette and nice sitting room, all for $50 per night less than anything else we could find. Unfortunately, they've let the place deteriorate to where it's hard to imagine it can be made attractive again without a significant renovation. Seems the property would be worth the investment. Lot's of young people (college age?) staying there cheaply. Never a problem for us though as they were quiet and considerate where we were at.

Shopping-Tipp: Short walk from hotel

The Ala Moana Mall is worth seeing, but don't bother driving as the parking is a nightmare. It's only three (admittedly large) blocks away and can be walked fairly easily. It's worth seeing and has a lot of high end shops as well as chain stores.

This could be cheap but not a vacation type of accomodation

Well this large accommodation is great for people to crash-in but certainly not a vacation material at all On the positive side: I should appreciate the room service staff for cleanliness It is Huge and certainly can accommodate a lot of people Now to the reality Noisy, all the road noise is inside all through the night/day, Windows are not made to protect from noise, rather just a metal grill No exhaust in the bathroom Towels shed cotton like a hairy dog No coffee(even after I asked to replenish and said that I will pay for it) Puddles in the parking lot Well I hate to be that bad about a great vacation I had in Honolulu Honolulu was great except for this bad Hotel and

Great Short Trip

I always try to stay at the Pagoda Hotel because it`s out of Waikiki, not much traffic, and eas\y to get in and out of. The staff is always very courteous and friendly. The room service is great. The parking is a lot cheaper there than any of the other hotels in Waikiki, it`s only $7.00 a day as compared to between $18.00 - $25.00 a day. For the price, it`s very hard to beat!!! And it`s in walking distance to Wal-Mart, Don Quijotes, and Ala Moana shopping center. I had a GREAT STAY!!!!

LikeLike restaurant is next door, Wal-Mart is a block away with an L&L drive in inside the store which has excellent plate lunches. Don Quijotes is a block and a half away and the have good places to eat in there. They also have a grocery store inside.

Local value

Popular for local students as well as trades people. Kitchenettes are handy. The place is cleaned thoroughly but this is an older building complex and shows her age in some ways. Quiet though. Postage stamp pools but they have two. Off the beaten track so you pay extra for shuttles and no tours stop here. You get what you pay for, there are no frills. No balconies and ask for a suite facing the pools otherwise you are likely over a parking lot which can be noisy near dawn. This is an average place, although the koi ponds and the ornamental gardens have their charm. The folks who care for the ponds and the Pagoda dining staff are lovely. All the staff were helpful and pleasant. Close to Walmart. A 15 minute walk to Ala Moana Shopping Center. "The Bus" stops all around the center going to various locations on the island. You can walk through the center and cross the street to Ala Moana beach. I would recommend this hotel to the bargain hunter who knows Oahu and doesn't care about frills, views or balconies, but not to a first timer.

Zeitgewinn-Tipp: Short walk from hotel

"The Bus" is an inexpensive way to get around. It can take you all over the island, so you can go to most sites on your own for less than a package deal. It's best you know what to expect at those sites rather than go 'cheap' though, some packages are well worth the cost. Walmart was great for things that are useful on the beach (snorkel gear, floaties, towels) as well as food and basics.
