A special once in a lifetime
The staff at Castle Molokai Shores was very gracious. It could use some renovation and probably a good cleaning. Carpet was dirty and we cleaned the bathtub. Kitchenette was adequate and clean. Due to the location and limited supplies - most is understandable.... enjoyed staying in the condo. They could use a coffee shop and snack bar.

The food and entertainment at Hula Shores Restaurant was special. The staff was wonderful and made our trip enjoyable.

As is, it is a good place for construction crew to stay.
Has maintenance issues. Light and overhead fan switches not working. Needs a "facelift", ie renew carpet. Headboard was not secured to anything and flops against mattress. Lever on shower spout that directs water to the shower head did not work properly. Could not adjust the speed to the overhead fans. FYI, there is no daily maid service. However, the staff was excellent.

Molokai Drive In did a good job for breakfast. The pizza place (forgot the name) was good for dinner.

Good central location on Molokai
The first item of importance at this particular condominium complex is that each unit is furnished and maintained by an individual owner. Some are substantially more comfortable and complete in their providing of amenities than others and you do not discover the difference until you arrive. Our particular unit was perported to provide a queen size and two single beds. In reality it became a queen and a convertable couch. There was no air conditioning and the ceiling fan in the living room was inoperative (this was replaced w/o a hassel on the third day of our stay) There was no maid service so you launder your own towels and sheets at $1.50 per load ($.50 for 15 min drying) and there was no hair dryer or stand alone fans which are a necessity on the hot, dry side of Molokai. The staff is great, friendly, and very helpful while you are attempting to survive. The view and grounds are gorgeous, and the parking convenient. Once we adapted, we enjoyed our stay, no matter how primative.

Short drive from hotel
The Cook Shack in Ho'olehua, seating max 20, best and most varied fare on the island from hambergers to Monte Cristos. Check with the locals for meals in Kaunakakai. Remember that cash predominates here, plastic is not always accepted in shops, pizza joints, and markets. And that everything you might require is within 2 miles of Kaunakakai. It's beautiful..the way Kauai was 50 yrs ago

The good (view) the bad and the filthy!
When we checked in, we were faced with a rude staff. Upon entering the condo, a sign on the door requested we take our shoes off. What a joke!! The place was a dump; stained bedding, broken mattress, broken furniture and filthy, disgusting bathroom. We complained to the management, who was sympathetic and upon learning that we were going to sleep in the pool chairs, offered to change our room. (previously we had complained to the on-site unit manager who said there were no other rooms available)We did have a room change, which was very slight improvement, but anything was better than our first unit. Great stay. The property is beautiful
This is not a hotel, but a condo complex that rents peoples places. The apartments are larger then your typical hotel room and all have full kitchens. The complex is literally right on the beach. The grounds are very nice, but the thing that is really remarkable are the sunsets.
