Aston Waimea Plantation Cottages

The cottage was quaint and very Hawaii. You feel as though you've gone back in time and our on the farm...in a good way. Footed bathtub made for a nice soak after a long day of hiking. Full kitchen was the best part as we cooked all our meals. Stopped at Costco from the airport and stocked up for our week stay. The beach is not ideal to swim in as it's murky and the westside is very far away from anything else. Not much to do. The location being the biggest downfall.

Loved the cottages. We could seek out adventure then return to our "home away from home" and kick back. It was wonderful having a kitchen and the privacy of a detached building. The cottage was well stocked and the grounds were great. It was quiet and very relaxing.

There was an issue with our first cottage after 2 nights and the G.M. upgraded our room and threw in some nice ammenities for our inconvenience. We would definately stay again. Thank you W.P.C. For a wonderful stay. David Kailua Kona, Hawaii

With a package we assumed we would get a "basic cottage" but this one was disappointing. It is one of the old cottages, very musty smelling and seemed only minimally updated. This old cottage had small, dark rooms. we closed off two bedrooms so the old rattling and loud air unit would cool off just the main room. Alot of the cool air escaped through all the open slats in the floors and walls. It looked and smelled like "Goodwill" -- funky at best. A open shed in the back had a dripping sink and sharp wood and nails sticking out - dangerous for kids. The plastic chairs on the lawn were covered in dirt. Most other cottages looked very clean and updated with nice outdoor areas. Also, what is this extra amenity fee? It seems "over the top" and an extra fee for what should be included in the overall cost. On the plus side the staff was courteous and the grounds were lovely and quiet. The town of Waimea is a walk around the bend.

Wonderfully restored cottages on beautiful grounds. A little off of the beaten track (about 20 miles from Lihue), but quiet, and refreshing.

The resort was really beautiful and I know we had nicer weather than the north end of the island. Our cottage was a spacious three bedroom house, though we only paid for a 2 bedroom. The pool was pretty and clean and there was also a 18" deep little pool that our toddler loved. The big pool was pleasant but only 3 feet deep in most spots and not really big enough to swim laps if you had that sort of thing in mind. Beach is nice for jogging. Hard packed sand and about a 2 mile stretch of beach in front of the hotel. Beyond that you have to run on roads. Ocean water is brown from the Waimea river and not inviting. There's also a volley ball area and hammock. Staff was pleasant. Place was serene and didn't feel crowded. Usually there was no else down at the pool and only a few people at any given time on the beach. Downsides were first and foremost the roosters. They start crowing at 3 am and they are really loud. One would perch on our porch railing and go off every 20 minutes or so which is just enough time to start dozing before you're awakened again. Bring earplugs! Other downside was the lack of restaurants. The food at the brewery was inedible. I'd recommend the tuna melt sandwich. Everything else we tried was just gross. The last downside is the location. Though we were blessed with nice weather, there is really nothing around the resort (except Waimea Canyon),so we drove to Poipu almost every day. It took about 40 minutes each way and there is sometimes traffic. One day we went up to the north shore and that took over 2 hours. The north shore is more tropical and beautiful but gets more rain. We stayed for a week at the cottages and noticed most of our neighbors came and went within that time so maybe people split their time between a few locations. For us travelling with a 2 year old we didn't want to be bouncing around. We liked it and maybe the throngs of tourists would have bothered us, but my best guess is that with our toddler, we should have stayed in Poipu. If you are content to sit on the porch or by the pool reading a book and you enjoy cooking your own food that this place is wonderful. Also would be great if you plan on exploring and hiking in the Waimea Canyon.

The western side of the island, Waimea, is beautiful. Staying at the Waimea Plantation Cottages was truly fabulous. We look forward to returning to this location. It is quiet and restful - aside from the resident roosters. :) The onsite restaurant, the Grove Cafe, was just steps away and offers a fine selection of local brews. It is a great place to hear local music in the evenings, too. There aren't enough superlatives to describe our cottage (#55) - we spent hours sitting on our lanai watching the birds, the swaying palm trees and the ocean. We had a full kitchen and enjoyed preparing breakfast every morning so we could sit outside on our huge lanai and leisurely start our days. We participated in an ATV trip, a catamaran excursion, tubing down irrigation tunnels, ziplining and visiting the National Tropical Botanical Gardens. We enjoyed the local restaurants and beaches, as well as meeting the people of Kauai.

It was like stepping back in time. Quiet and beautiful location. Good restaurant and even better bar with is own brewery. Only two draw backs -- no internet and the roosters start crowing at 2:30 in the morning - they must still be on east coast time. :)

Great getaway. Nice and quiet with plenty of room and privacy. Non-swimming beach was right there with very few people on it. Staff was friendly and professional.

The description of the Waimea Plantation Cottages on the Orbitz site was perfect. We wanted an individual, private cottage located in a complex with large grassy expanses and on the ocean with a sandy beach. We got it! The staff was always friendly and even upgraded our stay at no charge to an ocean view cottage. The vegetation is so lush that each cottage feels very private. There were NO glaring lights at night anywhere. We could see the stars as clearly as if we had been out in the middle of the ocean. The only sounds were the ocean waves, the wind in the palms, and in the mornings the warbling of the myna birds. We liked that we were close to the town of Waimea, but not in it, close to Salt Pond Park, and also not far from Port Allen, where we boarded our dinner cruise tour of the NaPili coast. Unfortunately, we both came down with horrible colds our 2nd night and didn't feel like doing much the whole week we were there... which turned out to be not a bad thing. Our King size bed was VERY comfortable and the bedroom was large and had a view to the ocean also. The bathroom was enormous. Loved the oversized shower and separate cast iron tub. Since returning, we have talked with 3 other couples that have stayed at the Cottages years earlier and also had fond memories of it. We toured the rest of the island but didn't find any other place we'd rather be.
