The Jane Hotel

What a great place to stay, The Jane is definitely an experience. If you've ever stayed in a youth hostel and liked it, this hotel is up your alley. The room I stayed in was small (I'm 5'6" and my arm span could touch the walls), but it was perfect for a single traveller and I simply couldn't get over the charm. It served it's purpose for me, a place to crash and shower, I would definitely stay there again! Side notes: For the shared bathroom, they do have hair dryers and they provide you with robes and slippers. If I were to go again, I might take flip-flops since when in the shower, the slippers got a little soggy. Lighting wasn't the best in my room for make-up, but nothing I couldn't make work.

I had a standard room. The room is tiny but it's not a big issue to me. The shared bathrooms are very clean so as long as you don't mind running into strangers (which only happened to me a few times during 3 nights of stay), it can save you a lot of money. Location wise, it's a bit of walk to the nearest subway but it's a very enjoyable walk for me everyday. Lots of cafes and interesting restaurants in the neighborhood. Overall I'd recommend this historical hotel for people traveling alone in new york for a few days.

Loved the Jane. It actually exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is terrific. The hotel is clean and charming. TMobile basically has a black hole in the area with no service. Not the hotel's fault, but a huge challenge....

I had an unexpected trip to NY that happened to be on New Years weekend. I like a good deal on hotels, and was having a hard time stomaching the $1400 it was going to cost. Then I came across The Jane. It was going to cost less than $500 for the entire stay. I couldn't pass it up. The room is smaller than I was expecting. It was literally just longer than a single bed with only about 2 1/2 feet of walking space. However, it was designed really well. The bed was really comfy. Once I got past the fact it was so small, I really liked it. (Keep in mind, I'm 6'4" and pretty broad.) Once I decided that I share bathrooms at the gym all the time, I was able to embrace the shared bathroom concept. They were really clean and I rarely ran into anyone. I thought the showers were pretty cool actually. This is super low-maintenance. No daily cleaning, but they do provide fresh towels and water in the room every day. All, in all, no complaints. What I loved most (aside from the price) was the location. It's in the West Village - blocks from the Meat Packing District. I walked almost everywhere during the day, and nothing was more than a $10 cab ride (except for the airport.) It was an amazing neigborhood. When traveling by myself, I would stay there again. The single bed is a bit small for 2 tho.

Although I reserved a small "Sailor's" room, I was upgraded to a "Captain's" room. The room was large with a private bath. I really enjoyed the slippers and robe that was provided, though I am not sure if they are available only with a "Captain's" room. The staff was very helpful with explaining the history of the hotel. This is the place where the crew of the Titanic were brought when they finally made it to NYC. The hotel is about 5-10 min. walk to the 14th St. subway stop with lots of shops and restaurants along the way. My room did not face the West Side Highway, so I do not know if that side of the building is noisy.

I chose The Jane Hotel because the name sounded neat and I needed a room fast. Little did I know what a cool treat I was in for! The rooms are exactly as described, but the location, view, and amenities were excellent-- better than I could have hoped for. The cafe and lounge attached to the hotel are both swanky and full of personality, and the closest subway stop was a pleasant, short walk away. I've already booked my next visit here!
