The New York Helmsley Hotel

In general, everything was bad except the location. Very poor housekeeping, no room service, no amenities, so noisy because of construction. Every morning around 8 AM fire alarm check, no bell man to take our suitcases down and this list could go on and on . We paid almost double from this site , when we got there, rooms were half of what we paid ???!!! Overall very very bad experience !!

I loved the location. Very close to Grand Central. Lots of places to grab a quick snack nearby. Walking distance to Times Square. I always felt safe in the area. Very close to UN. The hotel is undergoing a renovation. The room we were given was old but clean. The bed and pillows were clean and comfy. The room could have been a bit cleaner and there are NO amenties. It is basically a place to sleep. I felt safe in the hotel and the staff was very nice. I would stay here again.

We stayed at the Helmsley for a weekend getaway in the city. The location is excellent for anyone arriving via train at Grand Central, since it is an easy walk and one never knows how long the taxi line will be. The staff is courteous and professional and the hotel has most of the usual amenities. We were surprised to learn there is no bar in the lobby and had to go elsewhere to have a drink with friends. The rooms are not huge but they are sufficient and in good shape. We did have some difficulty controlling the heat and the room was a bit warm at night, but it was spring and some changeover issues are to be expected. We will probably stay there again.

Great Location. No amenities. Rip off. No parking.

We learned the hotel is undergoing a massive renovation. As a result there are only 4 floors open. Our room was renovated and just great. But, no room service, not even a vending machine to get a soda, no minibar, restaurant only opened for breakfast. So surprised all of this wasn't told to us at time of check in so we could go to CVS and pick up a candy bar, soda or something. I definitely recommend the hotel, the rooms are excellent and well maintained, just beware, no food or drink available anywhere in the hotel until renovations are done. BYOB!!

Hotel very clean and comfortable. Checking in and out was time consuming, only one person on duty at the desk. However they were very nice and offered free water bottles. Room was very nice with a good view. I would for sure use this hotel again. Near many attractions and not far from good food and good times.

The hotel is undergoing (much needed) renovation. There was drilling all day into the evening duing the week, and the staff could/would do no more than shrug their shoulders. The renovation is scheduled to be completed in June, 2012. My complaints about the clock not working and other annoying poor amenites was that they will not address any problems now! The location is excellent; the value is not.

Although the hotel is being renovated, our room was very nice. No renovation noise. The renovation will be complete May 2012 and we plan to return. Excellent location. Very helpful staff.

When you're exploring NYC, you don't spend the day in the hotel. But this is a perfect place to explore the city from, and when you're exhausted at night, the beds are clean comfortable and the staff is great! We'll be back.

I was put in a corner room which was excellent. I had windowns on both sides. The good size of the room and the comfort of the bed was unusual from other experiences in the city. There were very few amenities in the hotel, but there was a coffee shot and Rite Aide on the same block. It was a very good experience and I would stay at The Helmsley on 42nd again!
