The hotel has a perfect location if you are heading to Six Flags, La Cantera and Sea World...and the airport! Nevertheless, I didn't have a good experience because I specifically asked for a NON-SMOKING room...which, due to "special events going in in San Antonio during the weekend" was impossible to get. Anyway, we were offered a smoking room, which according to the front desk staff "is seldom used by guests" and it doesn't smell to smoke whatsoever. The room was tiny and it did smell like a smoking room (I was not expecting something different) but because everything in town was fully booked I decided to stay there (I completely was worn out after a long day of sight seeing and shopping). The surprise came afterwards when I realise the bed linen was not clean! (there were some died rose petals) I called the reception and asked the staff to change the sheets...the answer was "the housekeeper just left and I cannot change the bed!" (Whaaaat?). Anyway, I decided to go downstairs to the front desk and demand the change of the sheets! Finally someone went upstairs and change the bed linen.

Overall experience was good, staff nice and courteous. About 10 minues away from SA downtown which isn't bad. Hotel was clean and breakfast given was the simple cereal, waffles, etc. Overall I would stay here again if I'm ever in town.

This location is behind nested layers of split-lane highways, so getting to the motel involves navigating a maze of one-way streets in a neighborhood of industrial warehouses.
Although refinished with modern surfaces, the building is older and it shows in the cramped bathroom and the poor fit of the room door, as well as the non-electronic lock.
It was apparent from the smell that the room had been occupied by smokers in the past.
Staff seemed solicitous & ready to help although I had no requests during my stay.
I would look for another hotel on a second visit, although if I needed to be especially conservative with my money and this worked I could stay here again.

This hotel is extremely convenient to the Riverwalk without all the noise of staying right on it. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall really enjoyed our stay!

The Gunter is one of those historic hotels that gives you a special feeling since the moment you check in. Personally, I love the old pictures hanging in the lobby and the old telephone switchboard near the elevators is fabulous. Once you get pass the lobby, room was clean and comfty, but average. On the plus side, bed was great. On the downside bathroom is a little bit small and does not have windows or odor eliminator system.
Restaurant was above average, with a good breakfast. Had a drink at the bar which maintains the same “historic” feeling as the lobby, but with most tables being too small for my taste. Crowd was your usual business travel, just want a drink; so nothing very exciting.
Location is quite good. With easy access to local theaters and riverwalk.
If you get a good rate, I believe the Gunter is a good deal for your money.

The location was ideal for visiting the Riverwalk and Alamo. You can walk to the shops, restaurants, mall, IMAX, Tower of the Americas, markets, and other attractions. Parking on site was overpriced but a public garage is conveniently located across the street at a more reasonable price. The bathroom could have been bigger but was certainly adequate.

Me and my girlfriends went here for a weekend getaway and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was beautiful and there was only a five minute walk along the riverwalk to many restaurants and bars. We had a great time and the staff was very friendly. The only downfall was the $25 fee to self-park in the hotel's garage.

because my fiance is in the military they upgraded us and it was a beautiful room for $100 a night. we got a great deal. the $18 brunch is SO worth it, great food, right on the riverwalk. beds were amazing and pillows too! great staff.

I was in San Antonio visiting family, the Super 8 is right off of I-35, it made it convenient to just get out on the road and go. It is a typical motel, bed, TV, bathroom. They had plenty of towels and clean sheets. Overall the place was well kept, the non smoking room didn't smell like smoke and the staff was helpful on directions...I will stay here again because of the good price and location.

I must say that if you are looking for a hotel to simply take a shower and lay your head down this is the place for you. The hotel is pretty outdated and there is a stinch of smoke in the halls. In the room however we did not smell any smoke and we were glad to have both a microwave and a fridge. The staff was pretty nice and helpful. The pool is pretty small and is in a shaded area with no sun so dont plan on enjoying the pool. Like i said earlier this place is great for a place to shower, change and sleep. I wouln't suggest this as place to go and enjoy the amenities.

I was a little concerned after reading other reviews, but our experience was good, we checked in early, staff was very friendly and helpful. room was nice and comfortable, could use "real" coffee cups to go in the rooms, plastic cups just don't get it....
My fiance loved that Macy's and the Rivercenter Mall was across the street with easy access to the Riverwalk. Dont bother to Valet park as the self park lot is only a few steps away. Also the hotel is in a good location with highway access to explore the city.
We will have no reservations about staying here again.

My stay at the Riverwalk Plaza Hotel was very enjoyable. It was near to everthing that I wanted to do. The staff was very pleasant.
The only thing that left me a little worried, was that for some reason they could not check me out when I left at four o'clock in the morning.

It's in a good location, but does not have direct access to the River Walk. You must leave the hotel and walk across the street then down to the River Walk.Some of the rooms have balconies...so be specific when you reserve your room. It was clean. The staff was okay. The restaurant was good but too expensive. I would stay again because the price was good and the location was convenient to everything. It cost $12 a day to park at the hotel in addition to the room charges.

Our stay at the Wesin on the Riverwalk was very enjoyable. I reccomend using the valet service. The service we received was excellent. We had a room that overlooked the river. Very close to Dirty Nellys's Irish sing along bar. Would definitely stay here again.

Let's start by being honest- this is not a chain hotel like Marriott. The rooms are smaller, older, and more dated. But what you lose in cosmetics is more than made up for in location, the beautiful pool, and historic value. There is only one Menger- stay here and experience it!
Definitely ask for a balcony room- although they do not have king beds they are bigger and the balcony is great.
Hotel is in need of a facelift but I can overlook it for the sheer historic value of the place. Breakfast in the colonial room is also good, location is unbeatable, and public areas are incredible.
Enjoy San Antonio!

We were looking for location and definately got it at the Menger. We are also history buffs, so we didn't mind that this was an OLD hotel with small rooms, etc. If you are looking for the most in comfort and amenities, this might not be for you. Our room was very well air conditioned and clean, but the towels were sad. If all you are going to do is sleep there, it will be fine. If you want a home away from home, the need for repair might be an issue - EX: our bathroom needed some serious TLC. But we were walking distance from everything we wanted to do including Riverwalk. I had some unexpected work come up and the business office was always open and easy to use. The staff was good to us, the food in both bar and restaurant was good and we would return to this hotel.

A great place to stay that is right on the river and close to most of the attractions. The staff was friendly and glad to help if needed. Highrise parking was conveniently located near our room. We were able to walk out of our room and out a door and get to our parked car just a few feet away. You needed your room key to get into the building so security was good. The beds were comfortable and the television provided was a flat screen and seemed to be fairley new. The shower worked great and all the plumbing drained well. The airconditioning was quiet and worked well. The room was cleaned and kept stocked with all the necessary items on a dailey bases. We had WiFi which came in handey.

We enjoyed having the balcony where we could sit out in the evening the weather was perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful when asking about places for dinner. The hotel is in a safe area of town and is close to everything. The room was nice and quiet. All in all a great value and stay.

Location is great. Right on the Riverwalk and close to all the fun places. The room was clean and adequate. On the inside the hotel looks like a really tall, cheap Motel 6. Wifi didn't work though supposedly they had upgraded their network recently. Breakfast was pretty weak for what they charge. I would have been happier with a free continental breakfast. I stayed here because it was cheap, but next time I'll try somewhere else. It wasn't so much cheaper to be worth it. Part of the problem is that I've had good experience at other Holiday Inns so I had higher expectations.

The location was great - it easy access off I-35. I was late getting there for a trade show but I wanted to check in before I went to the convention center. The staff took care of me quickly and then provided a shuttle to the convention center right away. The shuttle driver was friendly and courteous and picked me up at the show when it was finished. I had a late supper in the lounge before retiring. The waitress was super courteous. I would recommend this hotel to travelers, whether for business or pleasure.

very nice and comfortable. breakfast was o.k. location was a little further from main attractions than i would have liked but the walk wasn't bad. wear comfortable shoes. and then there is the bus service which is cheap and runs continually during the day. we didn't use it but it was a nice option for getting around.

Close to Riverwalk and Alamo, and not nearly as expensive as the hotels closer to or on the Riverwalk. Breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking were all included in room rate. Nice size room with comfortable bed. Room lighting was dim, making nighttime reading or sewing difficult.

Perfect location for those arriving/leaving by Amtrak!~Generic Holiday Inn Express, just a tad overpriced but San Antonio is a Tourist town and October is a peak Convention/tourist time! Would stay again, breakfast was good!!

We choose the Holiday in express because we knew we would be sleeping in a decent room. The room exceed my expectation and the amenities were great. They offer to replace any missing necessities. The room was small but very clean. The bed was very comfortable. They also offer a full breakfast bar (waffles, fruits, bacon, sausage, eggs, cereal, milk, juices, coffee...) Although the location is a little bit further compare to the other hotels, for the price, I would stay there again!

Everything was very good. It's an older hotel but everything was clean and the staff friendly. The continental breakfast was well stocked and included healthy items. There was plenty of free parking for the guests. It's a little far to walk to the Riverwalk for some (0.7 miles) especially if chilly or rainy or short on time. I think they had a shuttle but I had a rental car so did not use it.

The Fairmount Hotel is a three-story Victorian structure that was built in 1906 six blocks from its present-day location. In1985 the Fairmount was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records when the 3.2 million pound hotel was moved intact to its current location three blocks on San Antonios popular Riverwalk. A glass display case in the hotels lobby contains an array of 19th century military objects from the Battle of the Alamo and an unusual assortment of British china. The Fairmount today boasts 37 guest rooms and suite and has wrought-iron verandas and a red-brick facade as well as a courtyard with lush foliage and garden seating. Inside the hotels guest rooms feature canopy beds overstuffed chairs and elegant marble baths.

When looking for hotel accomodations for a recent convention in San Antonio, the Fairmount showed up on my list. At first, the proximity to the convention center caught my attention, and then I remembered that this was the hotel that had been moved through downtown San Antonio to its present location on S. Alamo. The combination of the location and the historic background made the decision easy.When I arrived at the hotel, I was greeted by friendly and polite personnel including Luke the concierge, a Lab mix that was rescued by the owners. The occasional greeting by Luke made this hotel stay feel more like home to me. The furnishings and decorating created an atmosphere of luxury that transported one to the past. I found this a welcome change from the typical hotel decor.The one thing I missed was an option for breakfast. The in-house restaurant did not open until ll:00 a.m., and there was no continental breakfast offered. A coffee maker was available in the room, but other hotels offer that and at least a continental breakfast.All things considered, my stay was very enjoyable.

It was in very convenient location to access to the downtown area with that price.
But, it has a really small pool, and nothing to spend time at hotel with kids......

The room was excellent. It took a while to get checked in, but that was because of the number of people staying over with the event. The staff was professional, calm and offered everything we needed, including a place to put our luggage and a phone call when the room was ready.
