Lovely old hotel kept in immaculate condition in a great spot for visiting York. Friendly and professional staff, great food and drink. Highly recommended!

Well proportioned comfortable room and bed, but took time to warm up. Good breakfast and staff were efficient. The bar area was small and not particularly well furnished which meant when it was busier we were offered a table in the corridor which is not what you expect in a five star hotel. The spa was disappointing and overbooked you were allocated an hour time slot by booking in advance. The location of the hotel is excellent being close to the railway, all of the main attractions and the shopping and eating areas. However, despite the existence of a pool and spa, there was no exceptional service or amenity which you would normally associate with a five star hotel. I would try somewhere else next time.

Amazing hotel which I highly recommend. Valet parking exceptional. No VIP upgraded offered which is strange due to time of year. 5 mins walk over the bridge to the hustle and bustle of the Shambles- a must to visit- Harry Potter style! Cut & Craft a must for fabulous food and drinks. Two things that spilt the Saturday night stay though, the AC heat didn’t work when we arrived back from being out and about and also room 139 and any others at the back of the hotel was very abruptly woken up at 8.30 for 30 mins listening to bin wagons emptying.
