New in our program, this home has many great reviews from past guests.

We are thrilled to announce some exciting upgrades! The two queen bedrooms have been transformed into luxurious king bedrooms, resulting in a total of three spacious king bedrooms. Furthermore, the twin bedroom has been enhanced to include a queen bed along with a twin-over-twin bunk bed, providing ample space for even more family members to enjoy their stay. These updates ensure a more comfortable and inviting experience for everyone!

Only in a Waking Dream could there be ocean views this stunning. A mere 20 feet separate this home's driveway from the beach walkway! From the large deck off the living room, watch jumping dolphins, crashing waves, or the moon rising on an evening ocean. The spacious living area provides a place for all to relax under cathedral ceilings. The tower room features a 42' TV with surround sound, offering a nice getaway. Even better is the fact all TVs are equipped with Roku availability, as well as local channels through the Spectrum app, so your favorite shows and movies are always at your fingertips. A large well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar gives the cook all the space and utensils to whip up favorites. Create your own Waking Dream in North Avon, where the road kisses the beach!

You'll have direct access to the decks from the living area and three bedrooms. Each large bedroom has a TV and ceiling fan.

Please Note: As a barrier island, Hatteras is constantly changing. Beach conditions, dunes, and access points may vary due to erosion, restoration projects, weather, and other environmental factors.

Great Getaway

Waking Dream has a lot of space and is perfect for a family or several couples. We loved the open floor plan on the second floor and numerous porch views. Plenty of room to spread out. The ocean is close by, parking is perfect with room to clean off gear at the end of the day.

Excellent rental property with all the amenities required for a perfect week’s vacation! Beds were comfortable, furnishings were clean and appropriate for a beach house. Beautiful views from the oceanfront deck. Short steps to the beach just over the dune across from the house. I would highly recommend this property! Excellent value for the price!

Wonderful stay

Waking Dream was everything I expected and more. Very close to beach walkway. Amazing views of the ocean from the great room and front deck. Also great soundside view of sunset from screened in area. The kitchen was wonderfully equipped with everything you could need. The house was very clean throughout. We will definitely stay here again.

Great Location

Just steps away from the beach. Nice house. Easy access. House needs many repairs as well as landscape, a lot of thorns in the ground which is not safe for kids.

Great beach location

The house was very nice and just as listed. Great beach access and views. The "locals" neighbors gave us a somewhat hard time, and the mosquitos and flies were awful. Bring LOTS of repellent. There were a number of roach-like bugs in the house as well.

Great Older Place!

Loved the layout of this place. Nice ocean view from the top deck. Comfortably furnished with tasteful artwork throughout. Conveniently located at the end of a cul-de-sac, at a beach access point. Still a pretty good haul to the beach itself, which may be difficult for younger children or elderly folks. Liked the place though and most likely will return!

Waking Dream visit 2021

The house was clean and had a well equipped kitchen with mostly everything you would want or need. The description of the location to the beach is slightly deceptive - beach access is very close but the actual walk to the beach is longer than anticipated. We still had a wonderful, relaxing week and would definitely recommend this house to others.

The house is well situated (great beach access) and nicely laid out but needs updating and deep cleaning. Carpets and furniture upholstery appear soiled, window glass needs cleaning, and cushions on screened in porch were in shreds. Also, be careful of nails sticking out of deck boards.

Beautiful view, close to the beach, great house layout

My husband's parents and our family (2 parents, 3 kids) stayed in Waking Dream the week of August 11-18. The house is beautiful, nicely decorated and roomy, with a great kitchen/living room layout for socializing and enjoying a lovely view of the ocean in air-conditioned comfort :) The beds were quite comfortable and we had plenty of space in the bedrooms. The kids loved the loft bed! The location was perfect. We were about 20 feet from the beach access walkway, so we could go on and off the beach without a second thought. The street itself was pretty and quiet. We were close to plenty of shops, food places and the Food Lion in town, and there was even a gluten-free muffin place a few blocks down the road! We truly enjoyed our stay in Waking Dream!

Nice vacation spot!

Waking Dream is a wonderful vacation spot! It's right off the beach. You do need to traverse significant dunes, but that's true for all houses in Avon. The view from the great room is beautiful and unencumbered! Avon is away from the main drags, but in these times that's a major plus. The beach is spacious and not crowded. Plus, the night sky is spectacular. You still have DQ, Food Lion, and Duck Donuts. What more could you want? A few critiques: the cleaning prior to our arrival could have been a bit more thorough. Also, the management company could have been a bit more generous with starter amenities. Be prepared to bring or buy soap and shampoo if you stay more than a few days.

Not a pleasant stay

We booked for November, knowing it would be chilly. When we arrived at 7pm, the temp in the house was 50 degrees. We killed two cockroaches and had various dead bugs throughout the house. For the price, this should have been better. It felt like we were camping. It appeared as though they dropped off towels but haven't cleaned the home thoroughly in a long time. The dishwasher was broken. Would not stay here again!

Close Beach Access; Cozy

The close beach access is nice. Remember though, this is Avon and you still have to contend with a dune to get out to the beach. But, 4x4 access is close by, which was is nice. The house has some updates, the new deck and counter tops are nice. There is some water damage in parts of the ceiling, but hey, it's a beach house. It could use a deep clean under the beds, furniture, etc. But it was clean enough when we arrived. Having the TV up in the loft instead of the main living area is a great idea. It keeps the sound at bay when the kids are in bed. Bring a gate if you have Littles and the loft can be a great play area, as well. Could use some better pans and cooking utensils. The neighborhood was quiet. We had a great time and would stay again.

Beware: Mice live here. Waking Dream could be a Waking Nightmare.

Pros: Great location on quiet barrier island of OBX. Cool house layout with lots of rooms/baths. Great view of the water from patio and upper living room. Patio furniture made it a great place to chill day or night. Living room and kitchen were wide open and monster ceilings with ton of windows. Cons: Couple mouse sighting (Vacasa didn't seem to care when I pointed it out and asked them to investigate). One of the side bathrooms smelled like raw sewage. Some of the blinds broken around the house. One cockroach sighting. Ground level just needs general cleanup and landscaping to make it look a bit nicer. Overall: If didnt run into mice would likely consider coming back here. For what you paying, not worth it. With Vacasa not caring about my concerns, I wouldn't do this again. Too many other nice houses in OBX to come back to this one with these pest issues.

Not what we expected

We wanted to like this home. The inside layout worked perfectly. The sheets and blankets, bathrooms and kitchen were clean. Be sure to bring all of your toiletries
 toilet paper, hand soap as well as paper towels and so on. Pack like you’re camping. There were stained carpets and furniture, a broken ceiling fan, and a rusty dryer. I took photos if anyone asks me for them. The light switches were gross. The outside was dirty and overgrown which ruined the whole vibe. The grill was filthy and we chose not to use it. The hike to the beach (even though close) was rough especially if you are lugging beach stuff. We weren't prepared for that. It’s an uphill climb in very loose sand. The beach itself was an awesome location. Overall, we would still use Vacasa because we’ve used them before but would not return to this particular property.

Good enough

In short: Overall we enjoyed our stay, especially the location, but the reviews are accurate it needs some TLC, notably one bathtub and the kitchen sink were very slow draining, and the dishwasher didn't work.The Good: we really liked the house layout and overall were comfortable and happy. The proximity to the beach access is great. we really enjoyed the porches. House and rooms were clean upon arrival. The living room is comfortable for a group to visit or play games, which we did.The Bad: There are only 2 showers, one of which was not draining so you shower in standing water and for 8 people that was not great. The kitchen sink also seemed clogged/slow draining, and the dishwasher was broken, which we found out the hard way and handwashed everything the whole time, which was yucky with a poorly draining sink. Saw a couple roaches at night but that is expected to some degree in a beach house. The yard is small but felt neglected, needed to be trimmed and cleaned up. There was some gross chocolate or something on the deck stairs left by a previous guest that should've been hosed off. Our group was young adults used to camping so we were pretty adaptable but I imagine another party might be less happy.We really liked the layout and setup of the place so if the plumbing and other misc. issues were fixed, and it was thoroughly cleaned inside and out, we'd happily stay there again.
