Amazing 12th-century Monks castle with views!
Poggio al Vento (hill of the wind) is a very special place. Originally a Monks castle from the 1100's, it has been painstakingly and lovingly restored by Pauline and her family. 4-foot thick walls of ancient stone make up the walls of this house. Amazing panoramic views abound from all windows and the yard. There is even a 12th-century chapel attached to the house, used by the monks for 1 special service per year, at the end of November. Pauline was kind enough to give us a tour of the chapel. It was an amazing and unforgettable experience.
Two beautiful apartments (soon to be 3!) make up this wonderful building. All modern conveniences are included. Bathrooms are all modern and updated, as are the kitchens. Pauline made sure we had everything we needed, and was extremely helpful and attentive. She even met us in town and gave us a tour of the Badia in Badia A Passignano.
This is a quiet country house. Time must be spent in the yard sipping wine, eating a fine meal, or just enjoying the views. The dirt road up to the house is not as bad as it first appears! We had a Mercedes sedan and a Fiat sedan, 2-wheel drive vehicles had no problem, even in heavy rain.
We hope to return some day to Poggio Al Vento. It was an unforgettable true Chianti Tuscan experience.
