The Home
Built in 1912 by Swedish immigrants, this two-story farmhouse has been continuously occupied for more than 100 years and retains the feel of a working northern Minnesota homesteadâpractical, comfortable, and rooted in place.
The main floor features an open layout with kitchen, dining, and living space, along with a bathroom with shower, making it easy for groups to cook, gather, and relax after time on the river or trails.
There are three bedrooms upstairs, accessed by steep stairs from the living room, consistent with the homeâs historic design.
Each side of the house has a porch. The south porch serves as the main entry, while the north porch is a three-season sitting area and may also function as additional sleeping space if needed.
Outdoor Space & Parking
The 2.5-acre yard and grounds include a large pull-through driveway designed for vehicles towing boats or trailers.
Outdoor amenities include:
Firepit with free firewood (please extinguish fires when unattended)
South-side deck with electric grill
Picnic table in the yard
30-amp and 50-amp camper power hookups (additional charge)
Several private outbuildings and a shop used by the owners are also located on the property.
Location & Recreation
Audreyâs Acres is located directly on Minnesota State Highway 11, between the historic Nelsonâs General Store and the Birchdale United Congregational Church, and across from Birchdale Landing Road (UT-118 North).
The Birchdale public landing at Nelson Park, maintained by Koochiching County, is just one mile north and features a double access boat ramp onto the Rainy River, along with a public playground.
The property sits within driving distance of several major northern Minnesota recreation areas:
Franz Jevne State Park (short drive)
Voyageurs National Park and Rainy Lake (approximately 40â50 miles)
Lake of the Woods (approximately 40â50 miles)
Big Bog State Recreation Area near Upper Red Lake, featuring a mile-long boardwalk through one of the largest peatland landscapes in the contiguous United States
Seasonal highlights include spring fishing, summer trail riding, fall colors, and winter snowmobiling, with trail access directly from the property.
Important Notes
The property was operated as a logging business for many decades, and remnants such as old scrap or glass may still be present in the yard. Footwear should be worn outdoors at all times.
A Practical Home Base
Audreyâs Acres has been a popular choice for spring fishing groups, outdoor enthusiasts, and family gatherings, especially when out-of-state family is visiting the area. It is also close to the Birchdale Community Building, which offers a large kitchen, office space, RV hookups, and rentable space for gatherings at a very reasonable rate.
Audreyâs Acres is offered as a straightforward, well-cared-for home baseâa place to park easily, cook meals, rest comfortably, and get ready for the next dayâs adventure.
