There are multiple established walks, public footpaths, bridle ways and cycle routes that run directly through the village and out into the nearby valleys and fells and unspoilt natural woodland. All within an easy hour’s drive guests will be able to explore Killhope Lead Mine, Beamish Living Museum, Durham City with it’s historic castle and cathedral and the Durham Dales Centre, which are great attractions for families and really are worth a day out. Stanhope is also the current terminus for the Weardale Railway, a heritage railway that operates primarily at weekends all year round and runs from Bishop Auckland, with Stations at Frosterley and Wolsingham. A little further afield but still within easy driving distance, guests will be able to visit the natural beauty of Cumbria and the Lake District, the Durham Dales, Northumberland and Newcastle.
