Bed broke, and illegal due to smoke alarm removal
The room had a smoke alarm removed, likely due to the extremely strong smoke smell in the rest of the building. Of course, that is illegal and unsafe. Upon laying on the bed (I weigh 210 pounds) all the middle legs on the frame bent and had I not gotten up, the whole frame would have completely collapsed.The entrance that the host asked us to use is marked "Emergency Exit Only".The bathtub floor was stained and dirty, and all the plumbing had been worked on at some point, and the drywall not repaired, so there are large missing pieces of drywall and exposed plumbing.Had we used the shower, water would have likely been draining into the walls, since the tiling around the faucet had large holes in it.We left to a hotel and did not stay in this room, nor would I recommend that anyone else attempts to book or stay in this room until there has been some work done, and most importantly, the room being legal to stay in.I contacted VRBO and requested a refund through them, as well as sending a similar message to the host requesting a refund, and never heard anything back from anyone. When I called VRBO they requested I leave a review and contact the host to get a refund, as apparently they are not able to process refunds, and are not willing to help negotiate a refund in a situation where the room is literally not legal as a residence.I also plan to report this to the Calgary FD so that it can be inspected and made safe for future guests (if there ever are any).
