I stayed at Maltsters for a long weekend in Cardiff. I would stay again but it needs some alterations. Firstly I booked and paid for a premium room, however once we arrived and comparing room photos online, it was clear we had been given a standard room. I was refunded the difference upon leaving so am appreciative, however if I had not have queried it, I would have been out of pocket. The standard room we were given was fine. Clean. What wasnt fine was the tiny window that only opened 2 inches due to a safety lock, which combined with a warm, not hot, weekend (23c) and the room seemingly neighbouring some machinery (kitchen?) meant the room was stifling. It may be 2 of the worst night’s sleeps, whilst away, that I have ever had. The fan in the room was both covered with a thick layer of dust upon arrival but insanely loud. This was turned off swiftly despite the heat which should give some indication as to the noise level.
The area itself is great, coffee shops, restaurants, cathedral etc and either a short bus/taxi, or 35 min walk to cardiff centre. Free parking at the hotel, friendly staff, cleanliness (bar the room fan) and solid decor were all positives. Again, I would stay again at the Maltsters, however not if I was travelling between april-sept (heat) and absolutely clarify upon arrival your room booking type. You shouldnt have to do this but it seems necessary here.
