I booked this Wyndham Motel 8 for a one-night stay. Normally, I wouldâve chosen a better place, but for the price, availability, and the fact that I just needed a bed and some basic amenities like âbreakfastâ (which turned out to barely be a breakfast at all), I figured it would do for one night.
The only positive part of my experience was the front desk staffâthey were genuinely kind, helpful, and super sweet. Unfortunately, everything else about this stay was awful.
When I opened the door to my first room, I was immediately hit with the strong stench of smokeâit was unbearable. I went back to the front desk and explained the issue. They switched my room instantly, no problem.
But the second room? Still smelled like smoke, just slightly less intense. I had been traveling all day and was too exhausted to go back down and switch rooms again. I figured I could tough it out for one night. Big mistake.
Within a couple of hours, I was nauseous and fighting the urge to throw up. The smoke smell seemed embedded in everythingâthe carpet, mattress, pillows, and walls. I barely got any sleep. The room was also incredibly outdated, the furniture was worn, walls were dirty, and the TV barely workedâevery channel was staticky.
I didnât complain again out of courtesy for the front desk, and honestly, I was afraid every room might be the same. I also wouldâve left and gone to another hotel, but their cancellation policy is terribleâthey donât allow cancellations.
