French-Canadian Cabin - Cozy Rustic Getaway
Explore thousands of acres of public forest land and enjoy endless miles of some of the best recreational trails Minnesota has to offer. This is a rustic, maintained cabin so come prepared to relax, unwind and enjoy/explore the wonders of the north woods.
This cabin is nestled in Lake County surrounded by forest. Our cabins are insulated for year round use, complete with woodstove. Firewood is provided only for heating with the woodstove. No linens or pillows are provided, so be sure to pack your sleeping bag. A picnic table is also located outside the cabin.
Outside the cabin we have picnic table, fire ring, and outhouse. This is bear country so please store food inside.
A rundown of the basics:
Bathrooms: the Cabin does not have indoor plumbing , but is located near a pit toilet/outhouse, which is available year-round.
Capacity: Can sleep up to 4 people. Additional overnight guests are not allowed.
Cooking: All cabins have a picnic table and fire ring with grill grate for outdoor cooking. No candles, or other open flames are allowed inside the cabin. Cooking is permitted in the cabin on top of the metal hot plate. Extra caution must be used when cooking inside the cabin.
Electricity: Cabins have indoor lighting, electrical outlets as well as Wifi.
Water: No running water in the cabin but there are multiple wells onsite and water jugs are provided at check in.
Heat: Cabins have a wood stove for heat. Split firewood is provided for use in the wood stove only.
Firewood: Wood will be provided for the wood stove which heats the cabin. Dead and down wood can be collected from the surrounding forest for use in the fire ring.
Boat House: Guests have access to our canoes. Life vests are provided and required while paddling, these can be found in the Boat House. Please return paddles and life vests to Boat House after use. Feel free to explore Sand River or Sand Lake, the Sand Lake public beach (Sand Lake Rustic Campground on Google Maps) is about a 30min paddle away. Please bring your own fishing gear and license if planning to fish.
Property Trails: Guests are welcome to explore our many trails on property. Expect rugged terrain on trails, close toed shoes are recommended. You will find signs with trail names along trail corridors, there are no maps on trail. Trails are available for year round use via hiking, mountain biking, snowshoe, and cross country ski. Trails offer views of glacial deposits, Cedar and White Pine stands, Black Spruce bogs, and wetlands.
Nearby: Our property is the halfway point between Two Harbors and Ely. Whether you choose to spend your day on our property or go exploring nearby there is plenty to see. Ely is an entry point for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, has many of its own hiking trails, is home to the International Wolf Center, and the American Bear Center. Two Harbors offers views of Lake Superior, hiking on the Superior Hiking Trail, boat watching in the Agate Bay Harbor, and opportunities to take a ride on the North Shore Scenic Railroad.
Food and Supplies: You will have to travel the 45 mins to Ely or Two Harbors for food and supplies.
Available for guest 24/7 through email, text or phone.
Nestled between Two Harbors and Ely this rustic retreat allows guest to be fully immersed in nature. Whether using your ATV or Snowmobiles on the thousand of miles trails nearby or using our private trail system for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Canoes available onsite and have direct access to Sand Lake and a river system that will take you miles without ever having to exit your canoe. In late summer early fall wild rice harvesting is available in the shallows of Sand Lake right off the front of our dock.
