Plumeria Cottage offers a vacation of ease indoors and out. Compact yet perfectly proportioned in the vintage beach style, it is a delightful combination of convenience and charm. And, with a roomy, sunny lanai and large shaded grassy yard, it becomes quite spacious. An outdoor-shower room with laundry and plenty of room for beach items and for drying wet towels and bathing suits keeps the indoors comfortable and relaxed. The nearby shoreline access is a short walk away. The cottage also has air conditioning.

There is another home on the property occupied by our long-term tenant & his dog. He will be very respectful of your privacy & quiet enjoyment of the home during your stay.

Absolutely recommendable...

Plumeria Cottage is absolutely recommendable. Tastefully furnished with everything we need to feel good on holiday. We especially liked the veranda and outside shower and the comfortable bed for a good night's sleep. The kitchen is fully equipped. Puako is also highly recommended as a base for participation in the Ironman 70.3, for great excursions and a quiet stay. Our inquiries to Mary and the staff of 2Papaya were answered promptly, cordially and uncomplicatedly. We recommend Plumeria Cottage and Mary and the staff of 2Papaya without restriction.

Excellent location, cute cottage. The main reason I did not give a higher rating is that the host/owner is relying on the location alone to pull the entire desirability of the rental. For what they’re charging, I was disappointed with the overly compact space, and the “run down” feel in much of the interior. We only had enough space to open and place one large suitcase in the bedroom as the only thing that will fit is the bed. Screen door barely functional with holes in it. Curtains hard to use practically, as they don’t slide easily on the bamboo rods. It was a 10 minute project every morning and evening to draw the curtains. The walls were stained and/or dirty in many places and paint is chipped .. not updated in years. Decor feels cheap and overdone with some pieces that are torn and/or really old looking. From a cleanliness perspective, there is dust accumulated in less used but still visible places like higher surfaces/top of curtain rods etc. We had to accommodate an Orkin ant spraying in the middle of our stay (we were home at the time) because the place was infested. Although they were responsive to the problem, it really impacted our time there as they were EVERYWHERE

Plumeria Cottage

Loved everything about this place! The location is great. We walked across the street to watch the sunset every evening, always a stunning show. The house was easy to live in, equipped with everything we needed. We spent a lot of time on the lanai which looks toward the ocean. There’s beach equipment, and the beaches are a very short drive from the house. There’s also a park at the end of the street where you can get in the water if you’re on the more adventurous side. The property managers are welcoming and responsive. This is our second time at Plumeria cottage and we hope to stay there again the next time we’re on the big island.

Amazing and perfect cottage

I came for a conference and did not want to stay at the hotel ,boy did I make the right choice ! This cottage is absolutely charming and quiet,well stocked with everything you need to have a wonderful time! We cooked outside most nights and enjoyed different beaches every day. Lava Lava Beach club and the Hale bar at the Fairmont were really nice and both close to the water. We will definitely be back ! Thank you for sharing this wonderful property!

This place is better than described or photographed. Lots of nice amenities and ample supplies of everything you might need. Lovely and comfy bed and linens. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower! Snorkeling and sunsets across the street was amazing! Only thing that would be great to add is bicycles! We will be returning!

Everything Was Just Right

This rental was perfect for my wife and I. We love Puako and easy drives to beaches close-by. We walked just across the street for sunsets with turtles coming to rest right on the beach. There was a great snorkeling spot just a 4 minute walk away! The rental was clean, well-appointed, spacious for 2 or 3 adults, and Mary and staff a 2Papaya were very helpful and friendly! Highly recommended!

It has it all

Our last 5 days on the big island were spent here. It had everything we needed. The kitchen was very well equipped. Loved the spacious lanai, the outdoor shower, comfortable seating in the living room. A/C in the bedroom was absolutely necessary as it was very hot during our stay.The bed was super comfortable. Our neighbor,Kozy, was very helpful in pointing out the nearest and best beaches. Daily snorkeling within a five minute walk was wonderful. We especially loved Beach 69, a small, sandy beach that offers shade. just a 5 min drive away, When we return to the big island this is where we will stay.

Blissful escape in Puako

We're so glad we were able to stay in Plumeria Cottage for five days, though really we should have booked it for at least a week. The house is perfectly set up for a short or long-term stay, with a well-equipped kitchen, generous supply of towels, fast WiFi, and of course that wonderful outdoor (but very private) shower. The location is outstanding. In just five minutes, you can walk to an amazing snorkeling spot near the end of the Puako Road. From there, you can pick up the Ala Kahakai, a shoreline trail that extends up and down the coast, and walk 15 minutes south to the Fairmont Orchid (and beyond). You can also pick up the Ala Kahakai at the boat ramp on the north end of Puako and hike north to Beach 69, Hapuna, and beyond. Of course you can drive to these places too, but one thing that made Plumeria Cottage so special for us were these unexpected walking options. Another thing was the prompt and thoughtful communications and great local tips from the property manager, Mary, and other 2Papaya staff. We hope to return soon!

Lovely Plumeria Cottage

The property was very comfortable, exceedingly well supplied with everything from kitchen ware to beach chairs and toys. The house was exceptionally clean, one could tell it is a matter of pride for the housekeepers. Only downside was it was a bit warm from 1-4 ish, despite fans and air conditioner. That really did not present a problem as we did our water sports and touring during those hours. All in all a great experience.

THE BEST rental experience

I was so impressed with this rental in so many ways - the quality of the furnishings, the variety of supplies and the abundance of stock. Towels galore, best stocked kitchen ever encountered and the comfort was beyond my expectation. The location is quiet and convenient to beach park, beach trail, stores, etc. I could have stayed much longer but with 2 weeks here I really got a long over due, relaxing vacation that rejuvenated me. The cottage has a very unique Hawaiian feeling that one doesn't find at the vacation condos available in abundance and that was what I was seeking....aloha. This is aloha. I've also been snorkeling for years and spend a good amount of years in Hawaii over the years but the snorkeling out of the Puako beach park was the best, bar none. And I could walk there! In addition, I've been renting from homeaway, VRBO and others for longer than I care to admit and have virtually always had good experiences but this beats them all hands down. Mary and the 2 Papayas staff made all the difference. I got an advanced call in the event there were questions, we were greeted at the property at a very late hour (and he was standing by the road with a flashlight waving me in for landing!), was delighted by the ripe papayas waiting for me along with the gift bag and their overall communication was so professional and friendly. I was very impressed and felt appreciated, not just another renter. Thank you Mary, Sean and owner - Bravo!

Beautiful and stylish Hawaiian cottage

Located in Puako on the Kohala Coast, between the Mauna Lani and Mauna Kea Hotels, known for amazing restaurants, it’s a perfect location for relaxation away from the tourism of Kailua/Kona. The cottage is artfully decorated in Hawaiian style carried further by the lovely linen sheets on that oh so comfortable bed. The cottage has virtually everything one might need to enjoy your visit including beach equipment for your ventures to stunning Hapuna Beach and beyond. Did I mention the outdoor shower, an indulgence rarely found outside the tropics? We loved this cottage, the large outside deck and grill, the birds we heard every morning and the Hawaiian green sea turtles found along the shoreline of Puako. I was sorry to leave and can’t wait to return.

Puako Dream Come True

From the moment we arrived on the lanai, the Plumeria Cottage was beyond our expectations for a cozy beach home, just steps from the lava-framed beach, turtles, warm waters, and total relaxation. It was immaculately clean and well-maintained, and well-equipped with everything we needed for a lovely stay. The outdoor shower was a highlight after a long day at the beach. We can't wait to return!
