Let me first start off by saying I LOVE Sugar Beach. I have been visiting/staying there for 16 years and my husband has for almost 30 years. With that said, I have never stayed in a unit that was so poorly maintained. If it wasn't for the balcony and the absolute need to recharge after a long year of Covid, I would have been crushed.
The door was rotted away....I wish I could upload pictures here so you can see.....the frame was exposed, the side with the handle/lock was cut away in odd places. There was shag carpet that smelled of damp, muskiness in both the bedroom and the living room. I didn't want to take off my flip flops inside for fear of what may be on there. Wallpaper was torn in places and hanging off the wall. The bathroom ceiling was cracked and it looked like black mold was growing. I can continue, but I hope you get the picture. I think it was a disgrace that this unit is even being rented in this condition. Think Motel 6 equivalent. I'm serious.
When I called the property management and started with the door, they said they were aware of it, but it takes 6 weeks to replace it. I mentioned the carpet and they said they would check the last time it was steam cleaned. I asked the management company to call me so I could request another unit. They never did. While I could have followed up with them daily, I decided to make lemonade out of the lemons and just spent all my time on the balcony and out and about on the island.
I highly recommend Sugar Beach Resort, just not Unit #522 if it stays like it is. Shame on them for renting it out in this condition and asking high prices.
