Posidonia - Sieben Schlafzimmer Villa, Schläft 14
A superbly panoramic Aeolian villa with pool and quick access to restaurants, bars and beaches.
Sitting in a privileged position overlooking the sea and the historic castle and harbour of Lipari town, Posidonia is a typically Aeolian villa offering space, hypnotic views and that most rare of facilities on the islands: a stunning private pool.
Inside: accommodation at Posidonia is on two levels. The main floor has a variety of entrances, but for ease of this description we'll start from the French windows that access the centrally positioned open-plan living and dining area from the large shady sea-view terrace that runs along the entire façade of the villa.
When facing outside, to the right a door opens onto one of the four bedrooms on this level, a double with en-suite shower room, wonderful sea views and direct access to the main terrace. To the left another door opens into a little hallway, off which are two more bedrooms, a double and a double-twin, each with its own en-suite shower room. The double has great sea views and direct access to the main terrace.
At the back of the living and dining area, another door opens into a short corridor, off which is the well-equipped kitchen and a guest bathroom with shower. The kitchen opens out onto a shady side terrace, which has sinks and space for open-air food preparation.
Accommodation on this main floor is completed by a guesthouse, home to a double-twin bedroom with en-suite shower room, accessed via a shady garden terrace to one side of the villa.
Steps lead down from the main terrace to the pool area, whose shady portico provides access to a double bedroom with en-suite shower room and porthole windows looking out to sea. Heading past the pool one comes to a second guesthouse which is home to a twin bedroom and a double-twin, each with its own en-suite shower room.
Outside: al fresco life at Posidonia centres on two main areas. First is the superbly panoramic, shady terrace that runs along the entire façade of the main floor, offering glorious views out to sea and over the port, castle and town of Lipari. Accessed from the living room, two of the bedrooms and the kitchen (via a side terrace), this is the spot where you will take your meals, relax with a drink in hand, snooze in the afternoon and chat late into the night.
A curvaceous flight of steps leads directly from this terrace to the second focal spot: the lovely pool area, which boasts a well-furnished portico with bar, sea views and an extremely inviting, good-sized pool.
At one end of the covered main terrace is a panoramic viewing point-cum-solarium which in turn leads to a shady side terrace. Continuing along past a quiet garden sitting area and a little aviary, a flight of steps takes one up to the large roof terrace, from where the views are bewitching.
If all this weren't enough, a public path leads for a couple of hundred metres from the villa gates down to the seafront below Posidonia. From there one can walk into town in about 15 minutes.
Please note that there is no real shallow end in the pool, whose minimum depth is 1.45m.
Due to its location, the internet network at this villa is slower than in many of our properties. While it does allow standard browsing, it is not adequate for online streaming or remote working.
Although this property is located within walking distance of some shops and restaurants, we strongly recommend that you hire a car.
As this villa is located on an island, we recommend extra caution when booking your flights to avoid problems or delays with ferries and hydrofoils. It may be advisable to arrive a day earlier and depart a day later. Please contact us for any information or advice.
The owner occasionally stays in an adjacent property when visiting Lipari. It has its own private entrance and is separate from Posidonia. The owner is discreet, and you’ll probably not even notice he’s there.

Posidonia is situated just a 15-minute walk from Lipari's main town and port, also called Lipari, whose network of streets is home to an excellent selection of restaurants, shops and bars. The historic town centre, sited on a promontory above the sea, boasts an impressive castle, old town walls, a cathedral with Norman origins and the Museo Eolio, a fascinating, not-to-be-missed archaeological museum.
Lipari is the biggest and most populous of the Aeolian Islands. Historically, since Neolithic times, it has been the most important island in the archipelago and was once the world's major producer of pumice stone.
There is a quite efficient bus service connecting the bigger town of Lipari to the other smaller villages, but the easiest way to get around is by renting a scooter. A road circles the entire island and a drive around it is recommended.
Apart from a few very beautiful walks (maps of the island with suggested itineraries are on sale at the newsagents and a few other shops), Lipari has a range of lava sand and pebbly beaches, such as the one at Canneto (just a 5-minute drive northeast from Posidonia) and Acquacalda on the north coast. On the east coast are the island's white shiny pumice quarries, which directly overlook the sea and give the water an amazing turquoise colour.
Lipari is a popular holiday destination in the summer months and the main town, along with Canneto, come alive at night with plenty of bars, pubs and discos.
One great advantage of a stay on Lipari, at the centre of the archipelago, is that island-hopping is relatively easy. We particularly recommend a visit to Salina, Vulcano, Panarea and, if you want to get close to some volcanic action, Stromboli.
Arrival details will be confirmed by The Thinking Traveller after your villa is confirmed.
The Thinking Traveller can organise transfers and car hire and an agent will be in touch with you once your villa is confirmed.
