The cabin itself is undeniably coolâif you like historic, rustic properties, this 1800s cabin in the woods definitely has character and a beautiful, quiet setting. However, there were a few⊠memorable aspects of the stay. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the smell. The cabin had an extremely strong mothball odor the entire time we were thereâsomewhere between mothballs and burning tires. We actually ran out to buy candles to try to mask it, which unfortunately didnât help much. After looking around, it became clear why: mothballs appear to be packed into virtually every crack and crevice of the cabinâalong the walls, in floor gaps, everywhere. It honestly felt like every square inch had one tucked into it.There was also a very active mouse population. We heard them every night and saw them inside the cabin (including one that ran across my feet in the bathroom). To be fair, this is an 1800s cabin in the woods, so we tried to chalk that up to the rustic setting. When we returned the key and mentioned the smell, we were told maintenance had spread mothballs because there is apparently a SNAKE problem at the property. That was surprising to learn at checkout. Also worth noting: the backyard had a noticeable sewage smell during our stay.Future guests may want to bring airtight food containersâand a strong sense of adventure.
