A 1930s brick Tudor cottage set back on a wooded lot in SW Durham -- stone chimney, arched entry, hardwood floors throughout. Three bedrooms including a private first-floor king suite. Ten minutes to Duke Hospital, Duke West Campus, and downtown Durham. Little Waves Coffee in the kitchen. Fillaree toiletries in the bath. The kind of house that feels like it has been waiting for you.
Your hosts at Delighted Properties are local to Durham and available if anything comes up during your stay. The Duke Forest neighborhood occupies the wedge of Durham between Duke's West Campus and the 15-501 corridor. Streets are quiet and canopied. This lot sits deep on a wooded acre -- dozens of dogwood trees and azalea bushes frame the brick walk in spring, and the stone chimney rises above the canopy in every season.
Coffee. Little Waves Coffee stocked in the kitchen. Namu Coffee (3604 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd) is the closest local cafe -- 1.4 miles, worth the drive for the low-key, wooded ambience.
Restaurants and bars. Foster's Market (2694 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd, 0.6 miles) for the best breakfast and lunch in the neighborhood -- scratch soups, biscuits, and peanut butter pie on a cottage patio. Saltbox Seafood Joint (2637 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd, 0.6 miles) for James Beard Award-winning NC seafood. Fairview Dining Room at the Washington Duke Inn (3001 Cameron Blvd, 1.5 miles) for a special dinner -- AAA Four Diamond, live piano on weekends.
Landmark. The Washington Duke Inn and Al Buehler Trail sit 1.5 miles away -- a 3.5-mile paved loop through the Duke Forest canopy, popular with the Duke Health and university community year-round. Duke Forest trail access begins within a few blocks of the house. The Duke University campus -- Gothic architecture, Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke Chapel -- is a 7-minute drive.
The house is where Durham families stay for graduation weekend, where researchers settle in for a semester, and where medical families land when someone they love is at Duke Health.
Youâll have the entire home and property to yourself, including off-street parking for up to 3 cars. Please note that the driveway is shared with the home behind, so we ask that you park courteously so as not to block them in!
