*** Property ***
✓ That’s right! NO cleaning fee, NO cleaning chores, & NO air con fee at our monoAmbiente cabaña at Colina Escondida (Hidden Hill). Welcome to your cabaña, traveler!
• BACKUPS include 8,000 liters of water tank storage (because SJDS and many other homes often run out of water) and multiple UPS batteries to keep the high-speed fiber Wi-Fi running for a few hours during short power outages.
• Monoambiente—Spanish for "Studio Apartment"—perfectly highlights our stilted studio cabaña home at Colina Escondida, which includes 30m² of living space and another 30m² of balcony space surrounding the home. There are 2 ceiling fans, an air con unit, and large sliding glass doors and windows (with screens to keep the insects out) that let the cool westward breezes from Lake Nicaragua whip right through the interior.
• BED area comfortably sleeps 2 on the floating queen bed, but if a 3rd wants to sleep on the sofa next to the bed, we can accommodate that and provide you with extra linens. The sofa is 185cm (6ft) long, designed to fit most people. There are bedside tables with outlets and a freestanding closet with hangers, drawers, and shelves.
• BATHROOM has a "nightlight porcelain sink", toilet with bidet attachment, and a cabinet & shelves. The tropical, hot-water shower is located outside—yet privately enclosed—where you can watch the blue skies or stars & moon, as well as a view of the whole town and hillside from one of the best shower-views in SJDS.
• KITCHENETTE with microwave, slow cooker (but no stove), mini fridge, coffee/tea maker, large countertop space, and a variety of kitchen tools, because this house is not just a rental home. It's our home as well, and we love to prepare meals in it and keep it well-stocked with tools!
• PATIO DECK is partially covered by a traditional clay-tile roof, and there is also a French bistro-style wrought iron table and chairs. Warm, glowing string bulbs dangle around the home and bring extra tranquility to this space at night. The views of the town and hillside, along with the height of the balcony and the property (55m above sea level), creates a sense of blissfully soaring above the town.
• SHARED POOL, a few steps down the hill below this cabaña, is a gorgeous saltwater pool and patio overlooking the downtown. This is where another bathroom and outdoor shower are located. The pool is shared among other guests or us staying in the larger home on our mini-villa property.
• SHARED PLUNGE TUB (non-heated "hot-tub") is a fresh-water lounge area located at the very top of the property where 6–8 people can soak in the tub, soak up the sun, or soak up the moon with soaring ocean-views of the beach, bustling town, and sunsets.
• OUTSIDE your area hangs a shared hammock, a mini-wilderness, and sometimes you can see monkeys foraging in the treetops around our hidden hill. "monoAmbiente" can also take on a second Spanish meaning—Monkey Environment!
*** Guest Access ***
• ENTIRE CABAÑA is available for you and your group, as well as the outdoor covered deck area and the space underneath the stilted home. The pool, plunge tub, and entrance steps are shared with other guests or us staying in the main home (the larger one on our 1,400m² property).
• PRIVATE PARKING is not available at our downtown home, only small spaces for motos & ATVs. But there is free, public street parking 50 meters away at the top of the street, 80 meters away at the bottom of the hill, or secured paid parking near the beach. Let us know if you have parking questions.
*** During Your Stay ***
• CHAT/TEXT in the app, as we enjoy answering any and all questions. Instead of wasting precious vacation time trying to find something in the home, figure out how something works, or questions about the town, just send us a quick message.
• GROUNDSKEEPER Manuel is sometimes available to address any concerns or problems in person. He's fantastic, even helped build both of our homes, and is knowledgeable of many things SJDS and beyond. He will be cleaning the pool daily as well as tending to the plants and gardens around the property. He can help you run errands or pick something up. Oh, and he is learning English!
• WE THE HOSTS sometimes live in SJDS (when not in Boston or traveling) and may be living in the other home further down the hill. Come down and say hi! We are very gregarious and sociable, love hosting our guests, and even introducing them to the town if they want! We can interact with you as much or as little as you prefer.
*** Other Details ***
• STEEP HILL/QUICK CLIMB to get to this cabaña 55 meters above sea level, which requires a brief but vigorous climb. Healthy travelers can walk up to this cabaña in 4 minutes. While the location in town and elevated view are worth it, this daily burst of cardio is impractical for people with asthma, heart/breathing issues, knee problems, injuries, or walking difficulties.
Let us know that you and any co-travelers are fine with this short but steep climb. We are excited to have you book with us!
