A previous review from 2025 sums it up well: "Stunning view (just look in the best direction away from the old lodge across the lane) comfy beds. Large kitchen and lots of living space, A few repairs would make it even greater however we had zero to really complain about. HOST communicated well, and nice touch .. fresh flowers"Our stay was awesome. A suggestion is that the owner should spend a few days staying here to realize that some repairs are needed. Both the deck and the house need painting, the old pots and pans need to be removed and replaced, the dishwasher should be anchored so that it does not tip over when trays are pulled out and the bathtub should be replaced as showing its age.

Experience at the Lodge

We stayed at this property for a week with a group of 10. While the space had potential, there were several issues that made our stay less enjoyable.First, the listing says it sleeps 10, but there was realistically only enough space for 8 to sleep comfortably.The biggest issue was the water. It went out almost daily during our stay, and although three different people came to try and fix it, the problem was never fully resolved. It made basic daily needs like showering and cooking a constant challenge.In terms of the view, while the ocean is visible, it’s partially obstructed by a dilapidated house directly to the right, there’s what appears to be a condemned building with questionable activity happening around it, which made us feel uneasy at times.This property has potential, but it needs reliable utilities, a more accurate description, and attention to the surrounding environment to be a more comfortable and relaxing place to stay.

Disappointing

While the photos of the view from this facility are not inaccurate, they are also not a full depiction of the home. First, there is indeed a large and one of the most dilapidated buildings I've ever seen right across the street, obscuring your view to the right.The property itself looks like it was one time a very beautiful yard. However, it is overgrown and uncared for. Most importantly, inside the property appears to be an old farm house that someone converted to rustic cabin.... there is a definite odor to the house, the decor haphazard and mismatched. The house was baking hot when we got there and it is not air conditioned. We began opening windows both to cool it off and air out the smell. Several of the windows did not have screens including in the master bedroom. We had to move around screens to be able to cool off that area of the house.The home was generally clean but looking under the beds and in corners you could see it needed a deep clean.In terms of how it was appointed, the beds were not awesome, the bedding did not include a comforter, there were no facecloths or hand towels provided (although we found some in a dresser), hanging rods in the closets were either non existent or installed haphazardly, towels had a musty smell to them, the kitchen had random jars of things that were not labelled, and the owners things were placed throughout the property. If you are not fussy about these things, then you may enjoy a stay here. But otherwise beware.

Great place to stay

We enjoyed our 4 night stay at The Lodge. The ocean view and sunrises were awesome. The house was comfortable and had lots of room to hang out when we were not out checking out all the nearby attractions. Could maybe use a few more plates and cutlery along with dish towels which we could not find. All around a good first Vrbo experience.

Lodge Surprize

We found the Lodge was easy to get to using GPS but were shocked when we arrived. Across from the house is a derelict building with people living in it. Not certain if it was legal or squatters but it was a awful and embarrassing to look at and have visitors for dinner there. There was a burnt out light in the bathroom which we had to get a bulb for and replace ourselves, no facecloths in the two upstairs bathrooms, had a very hard time getting wifi and even then was very spotty, the mirror doors at the hall closet did not open well, the front bedroom upstairs did not have a shade on the ceiling light, only a bare bulb, and none of the bedrooms had shelving or drawers to put your clothes etc. It was wonderful to listen to the ocean waves roll but we can not say that we or our guests would recommend this place to stay. Very disappointing as there was no mention of the rundown shack with burnt walls, boarded windows and doors that we would have to look at all the time unless we kept out sight turned hard to the left. This place needs to have someone from VRBO go there to actually see what is being advertised on your site as this was not an insignificant price.

Beautiful secluded location

Just off the main road between Hubbards and bBayswater Beach this house is perfectly located on Margaret’s Bay. The house itself is equipped with good beds, kitchen equipment, with a minimum of utensils, dishes, and sponges . The little deck off the downstairs bedroom is just perfect for evening talks. Looking out from there on Margaret’s Bay is wonderful, but you have to keep your eyes to the left. The reason for this is the occupied cannery across the street is a real eyesore as well as the ramshackle shed by the driveway. We loved our trips to Bayswater beach.The two little fishing coves on the way were some of the most idyllic sites I’ve ever seen in Nova Scotia. A great stay for a great price. Smiles.

Property is nice. Pretty view on the sea, except the old building in front. Really good spot to see the stars at night, really calm. The washer machine and dryer should be change, the dryer is almost dangerous ! Overall, very good spot to relax !

Adequate stay

Nice views aside from the abandoned canning facility. The house is comfortable but needs to be cleaned. Many corners are home to spiderwebs, some that are obviously old. There is plenty of dust build up below furniture and on the floors in general. Kitchen is functional and appliances worked, but again things needed to be cleaned before use.

We as a group fell in love with the view. The house was cozy and inviting. We as a team tried to secure the outside furniture, but the hurricane took down 2 50' spruce trees and one fell on the shed with the lawn equipment. We were out power during the night. Fortunately we pack flashlights. The house was missing the code for wi-fi and the tv was upstairs and none downstairs. The washer and dryer was a plus but the dryer needs to be replace. It is so noisy. Thank you for sharing your home to our group of seniors.

Great views. Poor property

Older property on the sea. Garden not maintained. Upon entry, it smells of an older property. The bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs were clean. The ground floor bedroom, well, between spiders webs, flies and dust, not very pleasant. The dishes and drawers were very dirty. The dishwasher doesn’t work well, the floor was full of dust, and the vacuum cleaner hasn’t seen a clean in few months… once we cleaned what we needed we were fine. I’m terms of kitchen hygiene, very poor. I connected with owner who said he would pass on comments to cleaner. Mosquitoes nets are partly damaged… Not many dishes either when you advertise a property for 10. Certainly not 10 plates available, or knives and folks either. Shame as it could be a nice spot. I was very surprised at some previous reviews. Disappointing.

Quaint place with a great view

For the price, I really have no complaints. It’s a cute place. Waking up to the sound of waves and the beautiful view was fantastic! It is very close to the road, so there is a little road noise. The house is older so a few bugs do seem to make their way in, but that is to be expected. They have plenty of fans if you need some air movement, since there is no air conditioning. We were comfortable though with the windows open for night. I would stay here again. We enjoyed our time here.
