Getting Around:
THE WAVE TROLLEY * BIRD SCOOTERS * UBER/LYFT
******The WAVE TROLLEY, operated by Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), makes it easy to get around the oceanfront Resort Beach area. Virginia Beach’s Trolleys are the best way to experience all that the Resort Beach area has to offer.
The Atlantic Avenue Shuttle (Route 30) leads to restaurants and oceanfront attractions, with service every 15 minutes, 8 a.m.-2 a.m. daily, May through September.
SEASONAL: HRT also operates two seasonal bus shuttle routes from the Resort Beach that cater to visitors, taking you from the oceanfront to shopping and attraction destinations.
The Bayfront Shuttle (Route 35) runs from the Virginia Beach Oceanfront (Resort Area) to First Landing State Park, through the North End beaches up to the Bayfront along Shore Drive (Bay Area). Service is offered about every 45 minutes, 8 a.m. – midnight daily, May 21 – Labor Day and Friday-Sunday September 8 – October 1.
The Aquarium and Campground Shuttle (Route 31) takes you to Virginia Aquarium and fun parks along General Booth Blvd, with service about every 20 minutes, 9:30 a.m.-11:10 p.m. daily, May through Labor Day.
Single fares for all shuttles are $2 or less – you can pay with cash onboard or use cash, debit or credit cards to purchase multiple-day passes and fare cards at Sunsations locations along Atlantic Avenue or at ticket vending machines along Atlantic Avenue at 13th, 17th, 29th, 37th and 41st Streets.
******BIRD SCOOTERS
The inexpensive electric scooters can be rented using a smartphone app, so no cash is required. When you reach your destination, the mobile app charges your payment method. Easy peasy. BIRD scooters can be found all over the oceanfront—and many times even right in front of the house. Please be aware that scooters are not allowed on the boardwalk.
******UBER and LYFT are alive and well in Virginia Beach!
